NOW TAKING APPLICATIONS FOR THE 21/22 SCHOOL YEAR
Become a Classroom Grandparent (FG) in your community! If you are 55 or better, live on a limited retirement income, and can commit to 12 or more hours/week, love working with children, then this may be your "encore career"! No education experience required.... just a kind heart and the ability to learn new things.
FGs serve directly in the classroom of a local school, Head Start, or other non-profit childcare center or after school program. FGs work on teacher-assigned tasks as mentors/tutors that include:
- Reading to and with children
- Helping them with classroom assignments
- Helping with classroom activities (games, crafts, projects, etc..)
- Encouraging struggling students
Benefits for eligible volunteers include:
- A tax-free stipend of $3.15/hour (not counted as income when receiving income assistance benefits)
- Paid holidays and paid leave
- Pre-service and monthly trainings with community speakers
- Some transportation reimbursement
- Annual and on-going recognition (since our community is VERY grateful for your service!)
- Have fun while making an impact
- Meet new friends
Our program serves the counties of: Yellowstone, Mussellshell, Carbon, Blaine, Big Horn, and Rosebud. We serve: Ft. Belknap, Northern Cheyenne, and Crow Reservations.
Time devoted to service as a Foster Grandparent is time very well spent and will make a measurable difference in the lives of students. Service schedules are somewhat flexible and are set to accommodate your life as well as the needs of the classroom.
Become an AmeriCorps Seniors Volunteer as a Foster Grandparent and you will be serving your country.
