We are looking for professional/student volunteers to teach necessary life-skills to our sober living residents. This can include nutrition classes, resume building/writing classes, personal finance classes, etc. If you have a skill or are in a degree program that focuses on one of these topics (or on another topic you think could be implemented into a class), we would love to hear from you and set something up.  

The Salvation Army helps feed victims and first responders during a disaster. Our canteen serves Yellowstone County as well as other parts of Montana and possibly other states during large disasters.

We are looking for the following volunteer positions:
-Canteen Driver (Must have a CDL and preferably take ServSafe Food Handlers course)
-Canteen Manager (Must have ServSafe Food Manager license)
-Crew Members (Take ServSafe Food Handlers course)

Volunteers will be on call for a week at a time and must be ready to be deployed in case a disaster strikes. If you are interested in volunteering but you cannot commit to being on call for a week we encourage you to get trained and be on a reserve call-up list.

Personal Shoppers get to experience the work that we do first hand!  By working one-on-one with the women referred to our program, you'll be able to provide support and encouragement to someone who's embarking on her employment journey.  

Personal Shoppers help women select interview and work appropriate outfits while providing a safe and encouraging environment.  Volunteer shifts are very flexible!  Personal Shoppers do not need to have retail experience.

All Personal Shoppers must attend a mandatory training to learn our online database system and policies and procedures of the organization before they can start volunteering as a Personal Shopper.

If you love fashion and working behind the scenes, then we need you! Our Inventory Volunteers help purge older, out of season clothing, and refresh our boutique with new items.  This helps keep our inventory updated and clients happy!  

This position is very flexible and you can set your own hours. Typically, our Inventory team comes in once a month, sometimes more if there is a season change.

Do you love visiting with people?  Then this volunteer opportunity is for you!  We are looking for an outgoing personality who is able and willing to help our clothing donors unload their donations into the boutique as well as take them on a tour of the boutique to educate them on our programs.  

You will also be responsible for gathering their information and mailing them a hand-written thank you note after each shift (materials provided).

This position is only available on our donations day - Wednesdays from 9:00am - 12:30pm.  We are flexible on the number of shifts you work per month.

In our Training Center facility, we have a computer lab that is available to our clients to come in during open hours to apply for a job online or write resumes.  The computer lab volunteer will be responsible for assisting women as needed to write resumes, job search, or apply for jobs online.  

All volunteers must have great customer service skills, computer skills, and a general knowledge of resumes and job searching.

Women are referred to our program by our partnering agencies, such as HRDC, Passages, Job Service, YWCA, etc.  After a woman is referred to our program, they need to be scheduled for a Career Center appointment (resume development and job search assistance) and for a clothing appointment to receive interview or work appropriate clothing.

This volunteer opportunity would include calling clients to schedule them for appointments in our custom portal. Volunteers must have access to internet via a computer or smart phone and the ability to make phone calls.  This position is very flexible and can be done from home!

Do you love the smell of coffee in the morning? Are you a people person? Join our team as a Common Grounds Volunteer Barista. Volunteers will help ring up orders and socialize with the residents. We will teach you how to make fancy coffee drinks like a pro for the residents and staff of St. John’s United. No experience required. 

Location: West End campus

Time Commitment: One shift per week; Shifts available daily 9AM-11:30AM Monday- Friday

Shelter volunteers help with a variety of tasks around the shelter. Many of these are housekeeping tasks such as sweeping/mopping, washing windows, sanitizing wildboxes/carriers/crates, sorting/organizing donations, making adoption packets and goody bags, scooping poop, laundry, picking up trash, and so much more! 

Volunteers may also go through additional trainings which will allow them opportunities to interact and socialize with the animals at the shelter.

Our Couriers travel throughout Montana and Wyoming picking up and delivering blood products to and from our area hospitals, blood drives and collection centers.

Typical drives may include: Glendive, Miles City, Forsyth, Lewistown, Bozeman, Hardin, Sheridan, Buffalo and Cody.

You decide the dates and times that will work with your schedule. At this time, our need for Volunteers is Monday-Friday.

When you give your time to ReStore, more and more resources are available to put toward preparing the homes of our partner families. That’s a big reason we rely on volunteers to power our ReStore.

At the ReStore there are many different tasks to do and because we are open six days a week we can be extremely flexible to accommodate what time works best for you!

Volunteers are needed as sorters/cleaners/pricers, donation pick-up drivers and unloaders, cashiers (age 18 and up), and sales assistants. We also recruit volunteer groups to help with store projects-this could be a great volunteering opportunity for a club, youth group, college class or more! We would like volunteers who are interested in and capable of working with the public and with a heart for the Habitat mission, “Seeking to put God’s love into action, bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope.” Retail experience is not necessary.

No amount of support is too small! Volunteer for an hour or volunteer every week, come on your own or bring all your friends, and remember you don’t need any special skills to be an exceptional volunteer, just enthusiasm and the desire to help.

As the COVID-19 coronavirus impacts our community, YWCA is doing everything we can to avoid closing down services. Beginning Monday, March 16 we moved to a remote working environment. Our physical locations are closed to the public and minimally staffed, and our professionals are collaborating with each other and people who need assistance through other means—by phone, video, email, and through our online portal. Services will continue in this mode unless we are otherwise instructed by local public officials.

YWCA Billings

Work with children by helping them stay safe while a swim instructor is teaching life skills in a swim lesson class. Watch them progress through stroke development to possibly swim team! Safety in the water is our main goal. Having extra sets of hands in the pool with these kiddos helps the instructor focus on teaching these life skills!

Help assist with after school programs including: STEM, CATCH, rock climbing, swim lessons, games, arts and crafts, sports, tutoring and much more! (offsite locations also available)

Assist teachers with a creative and educational curriculum built for ages 3-5 year old children. Preschoolers will focus on Kindergarten readiness while also being active by participating in swimming lessons and other fun activities. It is always nice to have a few extra hands to help with projects and organization of the room.

Assist Bureau of Land Management (BLM) staff with general maintenance of the grounds. In the past this has included: mowing and general landscaping, gardening, fixing/painting fences, maintaining trails and walk ways, and setting up for special events at the Pillar to accommodate large crowds.

Training will be provided to operate tools such as weed eaters, riding mowers, and 4WD Gator.

Volunteers will facilitate activities that build off of STEM educational exhibits. These activities may include, but are not limited to, programs, workshops, and camps, where leads are expected to be knowledgeable on the content they are teaching and possess general knowledge of Wise Wonders. Volunteers must be legally able to engage and interact with school groups, children, and families. Volunteers must be able to adjust material to fit the demographic of participants.

Play Support Volunteers will assist staff during our operating hours by interacting with patrons. Patrons have expressed the desire that Wise Wonders staff interact more with children as they play in the Museum. Being short-staffed, Wise Wonders is seeking volunteers interested in this position. We need support primarily for our rotating science experiments and art projects. Whether you are helping a child make elephant toothpaste, leading a group in an experiment, or painting a cloud, play support volunteers are here to be a big kid.

The Billings Family YMCA has a wonderful ChildWatch Center within its walls. Members are able to drop off their children at ChildWatch while they take some time for themselves. Be a positive influence to children ages 6 weeks to 11 years of age by rocking babies, reading books, and playing games. 
ChildWatch is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm and 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm, Friday from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm, and Saturday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. 

Enjoy time sharing experience and knowledge with youth by serving as a positive role model by teaching the fundamental basics and sportsmanship of a sport. Coaches are responsible for all aspects of directing the teams practice and play in games.

Coaches meetings with limited training is provided. It would be beneficial to have some knowledge of the sport you would like to coach. Depending on sport it may be required to have First Aid/CPR training and concussion training. We provide all of the above training for our volunteer coaches!

Volunteer will be in charge of managing Wise Wonders website, literature and the Museum’s weekly newsletter. Responsibilities would include, but are not limited to, ensuring that the newsletter is accurate and goes out in a timely fashion; that wisewonders.org is regularly and accurately updated; editing informational videos about Wise Wonders for wisewonders.org, YouTube and Facebook; and updating and designing new Wise Wonders flyers, coupons, pamphlets and/or rat cards for distribution to patrons.

We ask for each volunteer to work a minimum of two shifts per month. This helps the volunteer keep up on the merchandise, be familiar with new merchandise and its stories, and remember POS (point of sale) procedures.

It is important that volunteers work scheduled shifts.  If you cannot work, you must call Staff and/or the Volunteer Coordinator as soon as you know you will not make it to work.

Volunteer will assist Wise Wonders staff in working the Museum floor, including, but not limited to, picking up after patrons; cleaning Museum; assisting patrons with admission and memberships; selling Wise Wonders merchandise; welcoming patrons; and answering any questions patrons may have about Wise Wonders and its programs or events.

Volunteers will rock babies, read books, and/or assist with other activities based on their own skills and interests while learning about the support that families and children receive from Early Head Start centers.

You will be pricing and displaying art and craft items to be sold. Items include things like fabric, sewing machines and other arts and crafts items.

You will be going out on the truck helping or truck driver pick up donated items. Items could be couches, desks, household items. You must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.

If you enjoy newborn babies and the excitement families experience during this blessed event, you can enhance their care by providing support at the nurse’s station, answering calls and call-lights, giving directions and running errands as needed. You may even be asked to hold a newborn that needs some extra cuddling!

Six nights a week, 4:30pm-6:30pm, we deliver dinners on two routes to feed the homeless of Billings.  We are always in need of volunteer riders and drivers.  Drivers must be above the age of 21, have a good driving record, and driver license.  Riders can come in groups of up to 3 people.

Talk to visitors of all ages about the significance of what they see at Clark's signature, on the top of the Pillar, near the Yellowstone River, and in the Interpretive Center. As an interpreter, you will offer valuable information to our visitors about the monument, Lewis and Clark, and the surrounding landscape. During May - October there's also opportunities to give tours to school groups.

If you enjoy talking about history, this will be perfect for you! Training is provided.

Report Writers work in 4 hour shifts per week speaking with citizens to learn about what happened in order to complete non-emergency police reports. 

This is the perfect position for those who love to tinker; take things apart, and put them back together again. Volunteers in this position work closely with our Biomedical Engineers, testing, repairing and delivering medical equipment throughout the healthcare center.

Some of the most important work at Wise Wonders takes place behind the scenes. In order for our patrons to have the best and safest experience, proper organization is key. Administrative volunteer responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, data entry and tracking in Microsoft applications; conducting research related to events, organization's, activities, and other topics based off of Wise Wonders needs, filing, and copying forms and activity sheets.

Keeping Wise Wonders clean and safe is crucial to the life and growth of the Museum. Maintenance volunteers will be responsible for cleaning the Museum floors, bathroom, kitchen,  and exhibits to the extent that these areas need cleaning, which may include, but is not limited to, washing, scrubbing, dusting, mopping, sweeping, disinfecting, draining, vacuuming and/or rinsing. Maintenance volunteers will also be responsible for maintaining the electrical lights in the Museum, ensuring other electrical and plumbing needs are met and operational, washing the windows, and ensuring that there are no loose or exposed objects that could cause harm to patrons or staff, such as nails, screws, broken pieces of wood or plastic, etc.

Work with one of the YMCA Certified LIVESTRONG Instructors to help participants achieve their individual goals after cancer diagnosis. You will work with participants at the Billings Family YMCA during their 12-week program.

Share your computer skills with novice computer users. As the world becomes more wired and the economy demands computer knowledge, many people are still learning to use a computer for the first time, or to gain confidence with basic skills.

Volunteers would have knowledge of and experience with working knowledge of PCs, Microsoft Office, Internet, as well as familiarity with the basic functions of saving and printing materials.

The Technical Services staff prepares new library materials for the shelves, and works with existing materials in need of minor repairs. Assistance is required for wrapping book jackets in mylar covers, and placing barcodes and other identifying materials in library materials in all formats.

Sign up for at least one 2 hour shift per week.

We need a few people willing to come in from 4pm-5pm Monday-Saturday, to pack meals for community members.

Assist at the gift store and greet visitors who come into the Interpretive Center. This includes making general cash transactions and answering visitor questions.

The gift store is open from April through October 9am - 5:30pm.

Special Events volunteering is great for those who can’t commit to a fixed schedule but would like to assist as their time allows. The Museum will host and participate in a number of special events throughout the year. These events may take place during Museum hours, evenings, or weekends, and may take place outside of the Museum. Volunteers would be responsible for assisting with setup and teardown of equipment and supplies, greeting visitors/patrons, as well as overseeing tables or sections associated with the event (i.e registration, food, activities).

We are in need of a volunteer part-time receptionist.  Hours: M, T, TR, F from 2pm-4pm, W from 9am-4pm.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to gain skills as a receptionist and build their resume.

We ask that this person be able to commit to stay on with us for at least 3 months. 

We are looking for someone who is friendly, enjoys people, enjoys helping others, has good communication skills, hard-working and a team-player.

Volunteer where you can provide comfort and information to patients' families during a stressful time in their lives. In our Surgery and ICU waiting rooms, our Volunteers are compassionate listeners, able to assist visitors and facilitate good communication between families, friends and staff.

Here Volunteers use professional skills to answer phone calls, assist staff and use various office machines. Volunteers may use computers, file, address envelopes, assemble packets, run a copier, organize materials or act as receptionist - duties depend on skill levels and office needs. Clerical Volunteers are professional and enjoy an office setting. Positions may be available in various departments such as Spiritual Care, Human Resources, etc.

Monday-Friday: varied shifts per department need and volunteer availability

We rely on the hearts of Volunteers to provide companionship and care to patients who may otherwise die alone. Compassionate Volunteers, who are companions to those alone in their dying, speak of the experience as a privilege.  This holistic event can create moments of grace for everyone involved.

4 hour on-call shifts.

The Fingerprint Specialist is responsible for fingerprinting the public for personal needs.  This volunteer will be provided training and is expected to have perfect attendance or otherwise coordinate for shift coverage with associate volunteers.  Shifts are flexible based on availability.  First come, first serve for scheduling. Shifts range from 4-9 hours once a week. 

The Cheri Nook Express is our coffee shop on wheels. Volunteers make rounds throughout the hospital, serving free coffee, tea, lemonade and cookies to families and staff. It's a great chance to make our visitors feel welcome and they in turn appreciate your kindness.
